PRESIDENT JONATHAN HAS ORDERED KESHI'S REINSTATEMENT

Stephen Keshi is said to be set for a surprise return as coach of African champions Nigeria  after the apparent intervention of the country’s President Goodluck Jonathan.

Keshi, who steered the Super Eagles to Africa Cup of Nations glory in 2013 and the knock-out stage of this year’s World Cup finals, was sacked on October 16 after a string of poor performances.

But several senior officials at the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have revealed that Jonathan had ordered Keshi be reinstated and given a contract.

In a statement, Keshi said he was unaware of any presidential intervention.

However, he added:

“If the president of my country asked me to return, who am I to refuse?"

DIEZANI MADUEKE'S SISTER, OSIYO AGAMA RESCUED FROM KIDNAPPERS

The sister of Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke, Osiya Agama who was kidnapped by gunmen lastweek, has been rescued by police in Port Harcourt eight days after she was kidnapped.

Mrs Agama was kidnapped by unknown gunmen on her way from an evening church on Tuesday October 21, at Leventis Bus-Stop along Port Harcourt-Aba Road, as she walked to her car.  

The police said yesterday that she has been rescued. A text message from the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ahmad Mohammad, stated that she was rescued during a joint operation by the Police, Military And Operatives of the State Security Service.

This is the text message:

“This is to inform you that Osiya Agama has been safely rescued during a joint operation by the Police, Military and the State Security Service. Two Suspects Were Arrested”.

No detail was given as to where she was rescued from.

HILARIOUS - WORLD BEARD AND MOUSTACHE COMPETITION

At the world Beard and Moustache Competition 2014, three hundred contestants participated.  The competition which took place last weekend in Portland, Oregon celebrated men with facial hair — shaming all those who don't take facial hair growth seriously. 

18 different categories of facial hair were paraded in front of six judges at the World Beard & Moustache Championships.

The contestants were diverse, representing nine foreign countries, the Virgin Islands, and 29 U.S. states.

The winners weren't just those with the biggest and most coifed facial hair. Judges were also looking for contestants whose facial hair "best enhances their overall appearance, style, and personality.

The overall winner of the competition was Madison Rowley, who sported a bushy beard with flowers.

FATHER KILLED WIFE AND TWO TEENAGE DAUGHTERS BEFORE HANGING HIMSELF AT THEIR HOME

A father of two allegedly murdered his family and killed himself in Bradford.

According to Mail Online, Jatindra Lad, 49, may have killed his wife Daksha, 44, and their two children, Trisha, 19, and Nisha, 17, before hanging himself.

It happened that worried neighbours who had not seen the family for 'some time' called the police who gained entry and found the bodies.

The Police are guarding the £235,000 property in Blackberry Way, Clayton, and say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths. However, post mortems will now be carried out to establish the cause of the deaths.

MY DAUGHTER NEVER HAD SEX WITH OSCAR PISTORIUS - MRS STEENKAMP

After a rigorous and long trial of the killing of Reeva Steenkamp by her boyfriend, Oscar Pistorius, Reeva's mother has claimed that her daughter never had sex with Oscar Pistorius during their three-month relationship and was about to leave the disgraced athlete on the night he shot her dead.

Although Pistorius previously told his murder trial that the couple were planning a life together, June Steenkamp says she has 'no doubt in her mind' that her daughter wanted to end their romance. 

Mrs Steenkamp also believes the model refused to sleep with the Paralympian because she had 'nagging doubts about their compatibility'.

'They'd shared a bed, but she was scared to take the relationship to the next level … She wouldn't want to sleep with Oscar if she wasn't sure,' she said in an interview with The Times Magazine.

She said: 'I believe their relationship was coming to an end. In her heart of hearts, she didn't think it was making either of them happy.' 

In her book, titled Reeva: A Mother's Story, Mrs Steenkamp describes Pistorius, 27, as a 'pathetic figure'. 

She writes in her book: 'Her clothes were packed. There is no doubt in our minds: she had decided to leave Oscar that night.

'It was Reeva's bad luck that she met him, because sooner or later he would have killed someone. I do believe that.'

On his five years sentence for killing their daughter, Miss Steenkamp's parents said they don't want revenge and so have accepted the sentence but that the whole incident was a mystery and only Oscar knows the truth.

Mr Pistorius is being held in the hospital section of a prison in Pretoria.

Mrs Steenkamp's book is to be published on November 6.

NICK CANNON DONATES HIS $2m SHOES TO CHARITY

Some time ago, Nick Cannon acquired a $2.2million diamond-encrusted loafers which he wore to the grand finale of America's Got Talent held at Radio City in September.  The newly single father, actor and TV host has donated the foot wear to St Mary's Hospital for Children in Queens, New York.

The shoes which were branded 'The Most Valuable Pair Of Shoes In The World' by the Guinness Book of World Records will be auctioned off at a later date. Nick says he's happy to donate the shoes and that the hospital can keep all the money made from selling it.

In a statement, he said:

"I want to keep this children's hospital going. It's one of the oldest children hospitals in New York. You got there and it puts everything into perspective. You see all that they are going through and that they can still have a smile on their faces. I get so much out of it. I'm glad to do this"

Big boy things.

GUNMEN ABDUCT DIEZANI ALISON-MADUEKE’S SISTER, OSIYO AGAMA

Gunmen have abducted Nigeria’s Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke’s sister in Port Harcourt. 

Acording to Vangaurd,  the kidnapping of Osiyo Agama was done at gunpoint as she was walking to her car on Tuesday night.

From the reports we gathered, the kidnappers' motive is not known yet, as there has been no report of the men asking for a ransom.

IMMIGRATION ARRESTS 27 WOMEN AND BOY IN LAGOS

The Nigeria Immigration Service, Lagos State Command, arrested 27 women and a 15-year-old boy in the Lagos Mainland area of the state on Thursday.

The suspects were nationals of Benin Republic, Togo and Ghana.

They were said to be without a valid entry passport or visa and would be repatriated as soon as the agency concluded all necessary investigation.

A few of the women were nursing mothers who had their babies strapped to their backs.

While the elderly ones amongst them showed remorse, the young ladies in the group chatted away as they avoided press interview and snapshots.

A woman in her 50s, who identified herself as Mrs Oluwaseun Joseph, from Cotonou, Benin Republic, was in tears as she pleaded for time to get her documents. She said to have been in this country for a long time and that she had all three of her children in the country. She and her children have been living on the money she gathers from carrying loads for people after her husband who is also from Benin Republic, died some years ago

The only male among them which was identified as fifteen-year-old Ishay Befaye said he had been in Lagos for only one month.

He said, 

“I am 15 years old. I came to Lagos on my own. My father is dead while my mother is in Benin Republic. I finished learning bricklaying in Benin and I came to Nigeria to find work. I planned to raise enough money and then regularise my papers. I make a lot of money from the work.

“I have a bank account in Lagos where I keep the money. I am just begging them to give me some time to get home and tell my friends that I want to go to the village to get my papers.”

However, despite their pleas, the state Controller, Justina Ahamdu has stated the command would not give the illegal immigrants a second chance as that would be against the law.

She also warned that Nigerians who keep illegal immigrants for cheap labour or obstruct officials of the agency from making arrests, may also be made to face the wrath of the law.

UNIVERSITY OFFERS A COURSE TITLED 'BEYONCE FEMINISM, RIHANNA WOMANISM'

The University of Texas at Austin's spring semester in 2015 will offer a class titled "Beyoncé Feminism, Rihanna Womanism."

According to the university's website, the Beyoncé/Rihanna course will not be full of "Umbrella" sing-alongs and lessons about how to do the "Single Ladies" dance, but instead the class will focus on the pop stars' roles in feminism and black American culture.

According to the course description, students will be studying how the lyrics, music videos, and actions of these women express various aspects of black feminism such as violence, economic opportunity, sexuality, standards of beauty, and creative self-expression.

"Beyoncé Feminsm, Rihanna Womanism" will then, likely, look into things such as Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's guest intro on Bey's "***Flawless" and Rihanna's always controversial relationship with Chris Brown.

By comparison, this class has a very eye-catching title. Whether or not you are a Beyoncé Bey (what?!) or part of the Rihanna Navy, it will cause you to do a double take while scrolling through electives. The one downside, students may not realize the type of academic inquiry or material that will be covered in the course.

Students in this class will learn that there is far more than catchy melodies to Beyoncé’s and Rihanna’s music. They will not be simply listening to Beyoncé and Rihanna for fun or even comparing the roles of Beyoncé and Rihanna in popular culture, rather, students will be studying how the lyrics, music videos, and actions of these women express various aspects of black feminism such as violence, economic opportunity, sexuality, standards of beauty, and creative self-expression. The instructor hopes for students to understand the role black feminism plays in popular culture as well as everyday life.

For any student interested in women’s and gender studies or how popular culture reflects social studies, this is a class that will make them fall crazy in love.

PRESIDENT'S WIFE RESIGNS AS BAYELSA PERMANENT SECRETARY

Wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience, has resigned her appointment as Permanent Secretary in the Bayelsa State Civil Service.

Although the First Lady was said to have left the service voluntarily by Ministry of Education sources but since the appointment had caused outrage in the state at the time with some Bayelsa residents accusing Governor Seriake Dickson of politicising the civil service in the state, there are speculations that she may have resigned because of alleged rift.

The alleged bad relationship between the governor and the President’s wife was said to have been triggered by Patience unwillingness to support Dickson’s second term bid and her clear preference for the Special Assistant to the President on Domestic Matters, Mr. Waripamowei Dudafa.

However, a ranking official of the ministry said it was true Patience had resigned voluntarily.

The official, who did not want her name in print because she was not authorised to speak on the matter, said she was not aware of the resignation having political undercurrents.

She said, “I can say Patience Jonathan has voluntarily retired. But whether there is political undertone in her resignation or not, I cannot say.

“I think the First Lady felt that her continued stay as Permanent Secretary will be depriving others. Now that she has resigned, it will afford others the opportunity to take over her position.

“Already, in accordance with the civil service rules, we have prepared all her entitlements. Whatever is due her will be given to her. She will also be receiving her pension.”

PASTOR REMANDED FOR SNATCHING CARS AT GUNPOINT

A district pastor of a church in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, has been remanded by a Lagos Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ikeja.

The 37-year-old pastor, Adebambo Adetunji, was alleged to be one of the gang members, who robbed motorists at the Ojota Bus stop, between April and July, 2014

It was reported that a Toyota Camry and a Mercedes Benz ML320 with number plates MUS 413 BH and LND 623 BF respectively, were diverted by the suspected robbers, who were said to have also used cutlasses, among other weapons in their operations.

The prosecutor, Inspector Nurudeen Thomas, on Thursday, brought the suspect, before the Magistrate, Mrs. M.O. Oshodi, on three counts bordering on armed robbery.

According to Punch, the charges as read in part by the  Magistrate are: 

“That you, Adebambo Adetunji and others now at large, on April 30, 2014 at about 10.30pm at Ojota Bus stop in the Lagos Magisterial District while armed with guns and cutlasses did rob one Mercedes Benz Jeep ML320 with registration number LND 623 BF valued N1, 850,000, IPad valued N80,000, Blackberry Bold 5 valued N30,000, Nokia E5 valued N26,000 and cash sum of N250,000 total value N2,236,000 property of one Boniface Joseph.

“That you, and others now at large on July 6, 2014 at about 5.30pm at Ojota Bus stop in the aforementioned magisterial district did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit; armed robbery.

“That you and others now at large on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid magisterial district while armed with guns and cutlasses did rob one Toyota Camry 2008 model with registration number MUS 413 BH valued N2.3m property of one Oluwatoyin Badmus.”

The case has been adjourned till December 3, 2014
